KETRA Promotes Fair Trade at ASK Kisumu Show

The Kenya Trade Remedies Agency (KETRA) participated in this year's Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) National Show that took place from 20th to 25th July, 2026, at the Mamboleo Showground in Kisumu.
The exhibition, themed "Promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth," aimed to raise public awareness on the role of trade remedies in protecting Kenyan industries from unfair import competition and promoting sustainable industrial growth in the country.
The event also allowed KETRA to reinforce its role as the competent authority responsible for the growth and sustainability of local Industries. Guided by the Kenya Trade Remedies Act of 2017 and the WTO Agreements on Anti-Dumping, Countervailing, and Safeguard Measures, the Agency ensures that allegations of unfair import trade practices are fairly and objectively investigated to arrest any form of import malpractices that may jeopardize the viability of local manufacturing/production industries in the country.
At the event, the Agency also highlighted that effective implementation of trade remedies not only shields local industries but also encourages investment, supports job creation, strengthens industrial competitiveness, and contributes to Kenya's long-term economic transformation agenda.
KETRA's involvement at the exhibition Show underlined its dedication to promoting a fair, transparent, and rules-based trading environment. It also demonstrated the agency's commitment to empowering industry players with the knowledge and tools needed to compete effectively in both domestic and international markets.
Beyond the exhibition, KETRA also expanded its public outreach program by making strategic courtesy visits aimed at strengthening partnerships with key institutions that play a critical role in Kenya's trade ecosystem.
The Agency visited the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) Kisumu Branch offices, with the gist of discussions focusing on enhancing collaboration and identifying opportunities through which the two institutions can work together to support local industries and facilitate the effective implementation of Kenya's trade remedies framework.
Similarly, the KETRA officials also paid a courtesy visit to the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) offices to formally introduce the Agency and its mandate while exploring areas of collaboration in the administration of trade remedies and the promotion of fair and transparent trade practices.
KETRA's participation at the Agricultural Show reaffirmed the Agency's commitment to promoting fair trade, protecting Kenyan industries from unfair import competition, and fostering strong partnerships that support sustainable industrial growth.
Through continued public awareness and stakeholder collaboration, the Agency remains steadfast in advancing a transparent, rules-based trading environment that enhances the competitiveness of Kenyan enterprises in both domestic and international markets.
